PROGRAM

Snow Owl’s Casa program is for children who are 2 ½ years to 6 years of age.  We offer a 5 full day, 3 full day and 2 full day program.

At Snow Owl Montessori Academy, we have decided to implement an All-Day Montessori program.  There are two main reasons for why we are offering the All-Day program.  First, being a part of a consistent environment with authentic Montessori materials helps to create consistency and order in a young child’s mind. Children are provided with the    opportunity to work with Montessori materials and engage in Montessori activities at all times. Second, being in a Montessori classroom for the entirety of the day limits transitions, which may be intimidating, confusing, and frustrating to young children.  Thus, the All-Day program will instead provide a fluid yet consistent environment for the children to develop and thrive at their own pace.  Our goal is to provide all children with an authentic Montessori experience that is respectful, caring, loving, and peaceful.

According to Dr. Montessori, the most important period of life is the period from birth to the age of six, children of this age possess what she called "the absorbent mind". This type of mind has the unique ability to "absorb" all aspects of the environment without effort and/or fatigue.  At Snow Owl Montessori Academy children are placed in a prepared  authentic Montessori environment that is organized into five main areas according to Dr. Montessori’s pedagogy.

In addition to the five main areas of learning, movement opportunities are essential for children because movement is an integral part of human brain development. Dr.Montessori implemented this notion into her philosophy and observed that children learn through all activity, not just sports-like movement. Snow Owl Casa curriculum provides each child with many opportunities to practice refining and co-ordinating their movements as they carry materials to their workspaces and return them, manipulate intricate pieces carefully and put them in their place, perform walking on the line exercises, and generally engage physically with their classroom environment. Furthermore, Snow Owl's Casa curriculum focuses on activities that promote and develop body awareness, gross motor and eye-hand co-ordination, co-operative play and listening skills. The program recognizes that each child is at their own stage of physical development, however we encourage each child to listen, participate, try their best and have fun.

"Play is the work of the child."
